Vanessa Shi (b. 2002) is an illustration designer and oil painter originally from Beijing, China, currently living and studying in LA. She is passionate in recording everything arouses her feelings--especially for her dream, where the camera cannot reach. Remarkbly, her paintings often combine both Chinese vivid color palette as well as western abstract expression. Whenever she’s free, she picks up her camera and explores every corner of cities around the world, ultimately crafting her own distinctive artistic style. Photography, as one of her interest, capturing life's moments to imbue them with artistic depth through her paintings. Fearlessly envisioning new possibilities for everyday materials, she has explored and executed various installation projects to deliver her thoughts.

Artistic Statement
Light, a common occurrence, yet every time it graces my senses, an insatiable urge to capture it lingers within me. It's extraordinary – right beside me, yet fleeting as a breath. And so, I seize my brush, translating each unpremeditated moment onto canvas. When the photography captures instants, my artworks have the power to conjure them anew. Abstract, yet grounded in reality, I portray these junctures through the prism of my contemplation.
For me, the realm of visual perception alone remains unreliable, as this plane of artistry lacks the vitality of the living – that is, imperfections in the material always brimming with boundless potentiality. Artworks, akin to life, need wholeness while embracing deviation. Black and white, cold and warm, I look forward to colorful changes that harmonize within the ensemble, as well as retaining unity even amidst tonal diversity.
The meticulous intricacies of traditional oil painting do not confine me. Instead, my brush dances with emotion, capturing the cadence of time's passage. Unreal hues paint my reality – a realm oscillating between dream and Sobriety, eerily familiar yet cloaked in the surreal. I aspire to wrap my deja vu into my creations, where atmospheres speak louder than forms, and emotions transcend the grasp of words.
